Jesussaid to him, "He who has bathedneedsonly** to wash his feet, but is completelyclean; and 1you are clean, but not all of you."

For 2He knew the one who was betraying Him; for thisreason He said, "Not all of you are clean."

Sowhen He had washed their feet, and 3taken His garments and reclined at the table again, He said to them, "Do you knowwhat I have done to you?

"You call Me 4Teacher and 5Lord; and you are right, for so I am.

"If I then, 6the Lord and the Teacher, washed your feet, you alsoought to washoneanother'sfeet.

"For I gave you 7an example that you also should do as I did to you.

"Truly, truly, I say to you, 8a slave is not greater than his master, nor is 9one who is sentgreater than the one who sent him.

"If you knowthesethings, you are 10blessedif you do them.

"11I do not speak of all of you. I know the ones I have 12chosen; but it is 13that the Scripture may be fulfilled, '14HE WHO EATS MY BREAD HAS LIFTED UP HIS HEELAGAINST ME.'

"From now on 15I am telling you before it comes to pass, so that when it does occur, you may believe that 16I am He.

"Truly, truly, I say to you, 17he who receiveswhomever* I sendreceives Me; and he who receives Me receives Him who sent Me."
