2Duringsupper, 1the devil having alreadyput into the heart of 2JudasIscariot, the son of Simon, to betray Him,

Jesus, 3knowing that the Father had givenallthings into His hands, and that 4He had comeforth from God and was goingback to God,
4got up from supper, and laidaside His garments ; and taking a towel, He 5girdedHimself.
5Then He pouredwater into the basin, and began to 6wash the disciples'feet and to wipe them with the towel with which He was girded.
6So He came to SimonPeter. He said to Him, "Lord, do You wash my feet ?"
7Jesusanswered and said to him, "What I do you do not realizenow, but you will understand7hereafter ."8Petersaid to Him, "Never shall You wash my feet !" Jesusanswered him, "8If I do not wash you, 9you havenopart with Me."9SimonPetersaid to Him, "Lord, then wash not only my feet, but also my hands and my head."
10Jesussaid to him, "He who has bathedneedsonly to wash his feet, but is completelyclean ; and 10you are clean, but not all of you."11
For 11He knew the one who was betraying Him; for thisreason He said, "Not all of you are clean."12Sowhen He had washed their feet, and 12taken His garments and reclined at the table again, He said to them, "Do you knowwhat I have done to you?13"You call Me 13Teacher and 14Lord ; and ayou are right, for so I am.14"If I then, 15the Lord and the Teacher, washed your feet, you alsoought to washoneanother'sfeet.15"For I gave you 16an example that you also should do as I did to you.16"Truly, truly, I say to you, 17a slave is not greater than his master, nor is 18one who is sentgreater than the one who sent him.17"If you knowthesethings, you are 19blessedif you do them.
