14 Therefore *, Hebron became the inheritance of Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite until this day, because * he followed the LORD God of Israel fully.

Joshua 14:14

Hebron therefore became the inheritance of Caleb the son of
Jephunneh the Kenezite unto this day
The time of the writing of this book:

because he wholly followed the Lord God of Israel;
as in ( Joshua 14:8 Joshua 14:9 ) ; Hebron signifies fellowship or communion; and this in a spiritual sense is very desirable by all the people of God, as Hebron was by Caleb, even communion with God, Father, Son and Spirit, with angels and saints, both now and hereafter; and they are willing to engage with their spiritual enemies in the name and strength of Christ, though ever so potent, may they but enjoy this blessing, and which is more or less granted, to all the hearty, sincere, and faithful followers of Christ; see ( John 14:21-23 ) ( 1 John 1:3 1 John 1:7 ) .

12 "Now then, give me this hill country about which the LORD spoke on that day, for you heard on that day that Anakim were there, with great fortified cities; perhaps the LORD will be with me, and I will drive them out as the LORD has spoken."

13 So Joshua blessed him and gave Hebron to Caleb the son of Jephunneh for an inheritance.

14 Therefore , Hebron became the inheritance of Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite until this day, because he followed the LORD God of Israel fully.

15 Now the name of Hebron was formerly Kiriath-arba; for Arba was the greatest man among the Anakim. Then the land had rest from war.
