WhenPilateheard it, he askedwhether the man was a Galilean.

And when he learned that He belonged* to Herod'sjurisdiction, he sent Him to 1Herod, who himselfalso was in Jerusalem at that time.
Jesus before Herod
8NowHerod was veryglad when he sawJesus; for 2he hadwanted to see Him for a longtime, because he had been hearingabout Him and was hoping to seesomesignperformed by Him.

And he questioned Him at somelength*; but 3He answered him nothing.

And the chiefpriests and the scribes were standing there, accusing Him vehemently.

And Herod with his soldiers, after treating Him with contempt and mocking Him, 4dressed Him in a gorgeousrobe and sent Him back to Pilate.

Now5Herod and Pilatebecamefriends with oneanother that veryday; for before they had been*enemies with eachother.
Pilate Seeks Jesus' Release
13Pilatesummoned the chiefpriests and the 6rulers and the people,

and said to them, "You broughtthisman to me as one who 7incites the people to rebellion, and behold, having examined Him before you, I 8have foundnoguilt in thisman regarding the chargeswhich you makeagainst Him

"No, nor has 9Herod, for he sent Him back to us; and behold, nothingdeservingdeath has beendone by Him.
16
"Therefore I will 10punish Him and release Him."
