And He was saying to them, "The Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath."

2On anotherSabbath He entered3the synagogue and was teaching; and there was a mantherewhose*righthand was withered.

The scribes and the Pharisees4were watching Him closely to see if He healed on the Sabbath, so that they might find reason to accuse Him.

But He 5knewwhat they were thinking, and He said to the man with the witheredhand, "Get up and comeforward*!" And he got up and came forward.

And Jesussaid to them, "I ask you, is it lawful to dogoodor to doharm on the Sabbath, to save a lifeor to destroy it?"

After 6lookingaround at them all, He said to him, "Stretch out your hand!" And he did so; and his hand was restored.

But they themselves were filled with rage, and discussedtogether*what* they might do to Jesus.
Choosing the Twelve
12 It was at thistime that He wentoff to 7the mountain to 8pray, and He spent the wholenight in prayer to God.

And whendaycame, 9He called His disciples to Him and chosetwelve of them, whom He alsonamed as 10apostles:

Simon, whom He alsonamedPeter, and Andrew his brother; and James and John; and Philip and Bartholomew;
