"1Behold, I am going to send2My amessenger, and he will b3clear the waybefore Me. And the Lord, whom you seek, will suddenlycome to His temple; cand the d4messenger of the covenant, in whom you delight, behold, He is coming," says the LORD of hosts.
"But who can 5endure the day of His coming? And who can stand when He appears? For He is like a 6refiner'sfire and like efullers'soap.
"He will sit as a smelter and purifier of silver, and He will 7purify the sons of Levi and refine them like gold and silver, so that they may 8present to the LORDfofferings in righteousness.
"Then the goffering of Judah and Jerusalem will be 9pleasing to the LORD as in the 10days of old and as in formeryears.
"Then I will drawnear to you for judgment; and I will be a swiftwitness against the 11sorcerers and against the 12adulterers and against those who 13swearfalsely, and against those who oppress the 14wageearner in his wages, the 15widow and the horphan, and those who turnaside the i16alien and do not jfear Me," says the LORD of hosts.
"For kI, the LORD, 17do not change; therefore you, O sons of Jacob, lare not consumed.
"From the 18days of your fathers you have turnedaside from My statutes and have not kept them. 19Return to Me, and I will return to you," says the LORD of hosts. "But you say, 'How shall we return?'
"Will a manmrobGod? Yet you are robbing Me! But you say, 'How have we robbed You?' In 20tithes and nofferings.
"You are 21cursed with a curse, for you are orobbing Me, the wholenation of you!
"22Bring the wholetithe into the storehouse, so that there may be pfood in My house, and test Me now in this," says the LORD of hosts, "if I will not 23open for you the windows of heaven and 24pour out for you a blessinguntilq25it overflows .
"Then I will rebuke the 26devourer for you, so that it will not rdestroy the fruits of the ground; nor will your vine in the fieldcast its grapes," says the LORD of hosts.
"27All the nations will call you blessed, for you shall be a 28delightfulland," says the LORD of hosts.
"Your words have beensarrogantagainst Me," says the LORD. "Yet you say, 'What have we spokenagainst You?'
"You have said, 'It is 29vain to serveGod; and what30profit is it that we have kept His charge, and that we have walked in mourningbefore the LORD of hosts?
'So now we 31call the arrogantblessed; not only are the doers of wickednessbuilt up but they alsotestGod and 32escape.' "
16Then those who tfeared the LORDspoke to oneanother, and the LORD33gaveattention and heard it, and a 34book of remembrance was writtenbefore Him for those who ufear the LORD and who esteem His name.
"They will be 35Mine," says the LORD of hosts, "on the 36day that I vprepare My w37own possession, and I will xspare them as a many38spares his own son who serves him."
So you will again39distinguishbetween the righteous and the wicked, between one who servesGod and one who does not serve Him.
