And Jesussaid to him, "1Friend, do what you havecome for."Then they came and laidhands on Jesus and seized Him.
And behold, 2one of thosewho were with Jesusareached and drew out his 3sword, and struck the 4slave of the highpriest and bcutoff his ear.
52ThenJesussaid to him, "Put your swordback into its place; for 5allthose who take up the sword shall perish by the sword.53"Or do you think that I cannotappeal to My Father, and He will at onceput at My disposalmore than twelvec6legions of 7angels?54"Howthen will 8the Scriptures be fulfilled, which say that it musthappenthisway?"55
At that timeJesussaid to the crowds, "Have you come out with swords and clubs to arrest Me as you would against a robber? 9Everyday I used to sit in the templeteaching and you did not seize Me.56"But allthis has takenplace to fulfill10the Scriptures of the prophets."Thenall the disciplesleft Him and fled.
5711Those who had seizedJesusled Him away to 12Caiaphas, the highpriest, where the scribes and the elders were gatheredtogether.
But 13Peter was following Him at a distance as far as the 14courtyard of the highpriest, and entered in, and satdown with the d15officers to see the outcome.
59Now the chiefpriests and the wholee16Council kept trying to obtainfalsetestimonyagainstJesus, so that they might put Him to death.
