1Now from the sixthhourdarknessfell upon all the landuntil the ninthhour.

About the ninthhourJesuscried out with a loudvoice, saying, "2ELI, ELI, LAMASABACHTHANI?" that is, "MY GOD, MY GOD, WHY HAVE YOU FORSAKEN ME?"

And some of those who were standingthere, when they heard it, began saying, "Thisman is calling for Elijah."

3Immediatelyone of them ran, and taking a sponge, he filled it with sourwine and put it on a reed, and gave Him a drink.

But the rest of them said, "Let us seewhetherElijah will come to save Him."

And Jesus4cried out again with a loudvoice, and yielded up His spirit.

5And behold, 6the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom; and 7the earthshook and the rocks were split.

The tombs were opened, and manybodies of the saints who had 8fallenasleep were raised;

and coming out of the tombsafter His resurrection they entered9the holycity and appeared to many.

10Now the centurion, and those who were with him 11keepingguardoverJesus, when they saw12the earthquake and the things that were happening, became veryfrightened and said, "Trulythis was 13the Son of God!"

14Manywomen were therelooking on from a distance, who had followedJesus from Galilee while 15ministering to Him.
