ThenHerodsecretlycalled the magi and determined from them the exacttime3the starappeared.

And he sent them to Bethlehem and said, "Go and searchcarefully for the Child; and when you have found Him, report to me, so that I too may come and worship Him."

Afterhearing the king, they went their way; and the star, which they had seen in the east, went on before them until it came and stoodover the place where the Child was.

When they saw the star, they rejoicedexceedingly with greatjoy.

Aftercoming into the house they saw the Child with 4Mary His mother; and they fell to the ground and 5worshiped Him. Then, opening their treasures, they presented to Him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.

And having been 6warned by God 7in a dream not to return to Herod, the magi left for their own country by anotherway.
The Flight to Egypt
13Now when they had gone, behold, an 8angel of the Lord9appeared to Joseph in a dream and said, "Get up! Take the Child and His mother and flee to Egypt, and remainthereuntil I tell you; for Herod is going to search for the Child to destroy Him."

So Joseph got up and took the Child and His mother while it was still night, and left for Egypt.

He remainedthereuntil the death of Herod. This was to fulfillwhat had been spoken by the Lordthrough the prophet: "10OUT OF EGYPT I CALLED11MY SON."

16Then when Herodsaw that he had been tricked by 12the magi, he became veryenraged, and sent and 13slewall the malechildren who were in Bethlehem and all its vicinity, from twoyearsold and under, according to the timewhich he had determined from the magi.
