and the custom of the priests with the people. When any man was offering a sacrifice, the priest's servant would come while the meat was boiling, with a three-pronged fork in his hand.
His sons, however, did not walk in his ways, but turned aside after dishonest gain and took bribes and perverted justice.
"Now then, listen to their voice; however, you shall solemnly warn them and tell them of the procedure of the king who will reign over them."
He said, "This will be the procedure of the king who will reign over you: he will take your sons and place them for himself in his chariots and among his horsemen and they will run before his chariots.
Then Samuel told the people the ordinances of the kingdom, and wrote them in the book and placed it before the LORD . And Samuel sent all the people away, each one to his house.
David did not leave a man or a woman alive to bring to Gath, saying, "Otherwise they will tell about us, saying, 'So has David done and so has been his practice all the time he has lived in the country of the Philistines.' "
So it has been from that day forward, that he made it a statute and an ordinance for Israel to this day.
