2
"In regard to all the things of which I am accused by the Jews, I considermyselffortunate, KingAgrippa, that I amabout to make my defensebefore you today;
3
especially because you are an expert in all1customs and questionsamong the Jews; therefore I beg you to listen to me patiently.
4
"Sothen, allJewsknow2my manner of life from my youth up, which from the beginning was spentamong my own nation and at Jerusalem;
5
since they have known about me for a longtime, if they are willing to testify, that I lived as a 3Pharisee4according to the strictest5sect of our religion.
6
"And now I am standingtrial6for the hope of 7the promisemade by God to our fathers;
7
the promise 8to which our twelvetribeshope to attain, as they earnestly*serve God night and day. And for this9hope, O King, I am being 10accused by Jews.
8
"Why is it consideredincredibleamong you people 11ifGod does raise the dead?
9
"Sothen, 12I thought to myself that I had to domanythingshostile to 13the name of Jesus of Nazareth.
10
"And this is justwhat I 14did in Jerusalem; not only* did I lock up many of the saints in prisons, having 15receivedauthority from the chiefpriests, but also when they were being put to death I 16cast my voteagainst them.
11
"And 17as I punished them often in all the synagogues, I tried to force them to blaspheme; and being 18furiouslyenraged at them, I kept pursuing them 19even to foreigncities.
12
"Whileso engaged 20as I was journeying to Damascus with the authority and commission of the chiefpriests,
13
at midday*, O King, I saw on the way a light from heaven, brighterthan the sun, shining all around me and those who were journeying with me.
14
"And when we had 21allfallen to the ground, I heard a voicesaying to me in the 22Hebrewdialect, 'Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting Me? It is hard for you to kickagainst the goads.'
15
"And I said, 'Who are You, Lord?' And the Lordsaid, 'I amJesuswhom you are persecuting.
16
'But get up and 23stand on your feet; for this purpose I have appeared to you, to 24appoint you a 25minister and 26a witness not only to the things which you have seen, but also to the things in which I will appear to you;
17
27rescuing you 28from the Jewish people and from the Gentiles, to whom I am sending you,
18
to 29open their eyes so that they may turn from 30darkness to light and from the dominion of 31Satan to God, that they may receive32forgiveness of sins and an 33inheritanceamongthose who have been sanctified by 34faith in Me.'
19
"So, KingAgrippa, I did not provedisobedient to the heavenlyvision,
20
but kept declaringboth35to those of Damascusfirst, and also 36at Jerusalem and then throughout all the region of Judea, and even 37to the Gentiles, that they should 38repent and turn to God, performingdeeds39appropriate to repentance.
21
"For thisreason some Jews40seized me in the temple and tried41to put me to death.
22
"So, having obtainedhelp from God, I stand to thisday42testifyingboth to small and great, statingnothing but what43the Prophets and Mosessaid was going to takeplace;
23
44that the Christ was to suffer, and that 45by reason of His resurrection from the dead He would be the first to proclaim46lightboth to the Jewish people and to the Gentiles."
