Psalms 78:56 Meaning and Commentary

Psalms 78:56

Yet they tempted and provoked the most high God
After the death of Joshua, and in the times of the judges, by worshipping and serving the gods of the nations, and forsaking the Lord their God, who had done such great things for them, ( Judges 2:11-14 ) ,

and kept not his testimonies;
the laws of God, which testified and declared his mind and will; nor observed his word and ordinances, which testified of his grace, and of the way of salvation by Jesus Christ.

Psalms 78:56 In-Context

54 So He brought them to His holy land, To this hill country which His right hand had gained.
55 He also drove out the nations before them And apportioned them for an inheritance by measurement, And made the tribes of Israel dwell in their tents.
56 Yet they tempted and rebelled against the Most High God And did not keep His testimonies,
57 But turned back and acted treacherously like their fathers; They turned aside like a treacherous bow.
58 For they provoked Him with their high places And aroused His jealousy with their graven images.
