Psalms 135:5-15

5 For I know that 1the LORD is great And that our Lord is 2above all gods.
6 3Whatever * the LORD pleases, He does, In heaven and in earth, in the seas and in all deeps.
7 He 4causes the vapors to ascend from the ends of the earth; Who 5makes lightnings for the rain, Who 6brings forth the wind from His treasuries.
8 He 7smote the firstborn of Egypt, Both of man and beast.
9 He sent 8signs and wonders into your midst, O Egypt, Upon 9Pharaoh and all his servants.
10 10He 11smote many nations And slew mighty kings,
11 12Sihon, king of the Amorites, And 13Og, king of Bashan, And 14all the kingdoms of Canaan;
12 And He 15gave their land as a heritage, A heritage to Israel His people.
13 Your 16name, O LORD, is everlasting, Your remembrance, O LORD, throughout all generations.
14 For the LORD will 17judge His people And 18will have compassion on His servants.
15 The 19idols of the nations are but silver and gold, The work of man's hands.

Psalms 135:5-15 Meaning and Commentary

INTRODUCTION TO PSALM 135

This psalm was written very probably by the same hand as the former. It begins in much the same manner; it has some likeness with Psalm 113 and 114. It begins and ends with "hallelujah"; and is throughout an exhortation of praise to God, on account of his name, nature, and perfections; and because of his works of creation, providence, and grace, many of which are enumerated. The Syriac interpreter says, there is an intimation in it of the conversion of the people of the Messiah unto the faith.
