Psalms 135:9-19

9 He sent 1signs and wonders into your midst, O Egypt, Upon 2Pharaoh and all his servants.
10 3He 4smote many nations And slew mighty kings,
11 5Sihon, king of the Amorites, And 6Og, king of Bashan, And 7all the kingdoms of Canaan;
12 And He 8gave their land as a heritage, A heritage to Israel His people.
13 Your 9name, O LORD, is everlasting, Your remembrance, O LORD, throughout all generations.
14 For the LORD will 10judge His people And 11will have compassion on His servants.
15 The 12idols of the nations are but silver and gold, The work of man's hands.
16 They have mouths, but they do not speak; They have eyes, but they do not see;
17 They have ears, but they do not hear, Nor is there any breath at all in their mouths.
18 Those who make them will be like them, Yes, everyone who trusts in them.
19 O house of 13Israel, bless the LORD; O house of Aaron, bless the LORD;

Psalms 135:9-19 Meaning and Commentary

INTRODUCTION TO PSALM 135

This psalm was written very probably by the same hand as the former. It begins in much the same manner; it has some likeness with Psalm 113 and 114. It begins and ends with "hallelujah"; and is throughout an exhortation of praise to God, on account of his name, nature, and perfections; and because of his works of creation, providence, and grace, many of which are enumerated. The Syriac interpreter says, there is an intimation in it of the conversion of the people of the Messiah unto the faith.
