Psalms 37:14-24

14 The wicked have drawn the sword and 1bent their bow To cast down the 2afflicted and the needy, To 3slay those who are upright in conduct.
15 Their sword will enter their own heart, And their 4bows will be broken.
16 5Better is the little of the righteous Than the abundance of many wicked.
17 For the 6arms of the wicked will be broken, But the LORD 7sustains the righteous.
18 The LORD 8knows the days of the blameless, And their 9inheritance will be forever.
19 They will not be ashamed in the time of evil, And 10in the days of famine they will have abundance.
20 But the 11wicked will perish; And the enemies of the LORD will be like the glory of the pastures, They vanish -12like smoke they vanish away.
21 The wicked borrows and does not pay back, But the righteous 13is gracious and gives.
22 For 14those blessed by Him will 15inherit the land, But those 16cursed by Him will be cut off.
23 17The steps of a man are established by the LORD, And He 18delights in his way.
24 When 19he falls, he will not be hurled headlong, Because 20the LORD is the One who holds his hand.

Psalms 37:14-24 Meaning and Commentary

INTRODUCTION TO PSALM 37

\\<<[A Psalm] of David>>\\. This psalm, it is very probable, was written at the same time, and upon the same occasion, with the former; and describes the different states of good and bad men; and is full of exhortations, instructions, and advice to the people of God; intermixed with various encouraging promises. A late learned writer {h} thinks it was written for Mephibosheth's consolation under Ziba's calumny. {h} Delaney's Life of King David, vol. 2. p. 219.
