Psalms 77:5-15

5 I have considered the 1days of old, The years of long ago.
6 I will remember my 2song in the night; I 3will meditate with my heart, And my spirit ponders:
7 Will the Lord 4reject forever? And will He 5never be favorable again?
8 Has His 6lovingkindness ceased forever? Has His 7promise come to an end forever?
9 Has God 8forgotten to be gracious, Or has He in anger withdrawn His 9compassion? Selah.
10 Then I said, "10It is my grief, That the 11right hand of the Most High has changed."
11 I shall remember the 12deeds of the LORD; Surely I will 13remember Your wonders of old.
12 I will 14meditate on all Your work And muse on Your deeds.
13 Your way, O God, is 15holy; 16What god is great like our God?
14 You are the 17God who works wonders; You have 18made known Your strength among the peoples.
15 You have by Your power 19redeemed Your people, The sons of Jacob and 20Joseph. Selah.

Psalms 77:5-15 Meaning and Commentary

To the chief Musician, to Jeduthun, A Psalm of Asaph. Jeduthun was the name of the chief musician, to whom this psalm was inscribed and sent; see 1 Chronicles 25:1, though Aben Ezra takes it to be the first word of some song, to the tune of which this was sung; and the Midrash interprets it of the subject of the psalm, which is followed by Jarchi, who explains it thus, "concerning the decrees and judgments which passed upon Israel;" that is, in the time of their present captivity, to which, as he, Kimchi, and Arama think, the whole psalm belongs. Some interpreters refer it to the affliction of the Jews in Babylon, so Theodoret; or under Ahasuerus, or Antiochus; and others to the great and last distress of the church under antichrist; though it seems to express the particular case of the psalmist, and which is common to other saints.
