Psalms 77:7-17

7 Will the Lord 1reject forever? And will He 2never be favorable again?
8 Has His 3lovingkindness ceased forever? Has His 4promise come to an end forever?
9 Has God 5forgotten to be gracious, Or has He in anger withdrawn His 6compassion? Selah.
10 Then I said, "7It is my grief, That the 8right hand of the Most High has changed."
11 I shall remember the 9deeds of the LORD; Surely I will 10remember Your wonders of old.
12 I will 11meditate on all Your work And muse on Your deeds.
13 Your way, O God, is 12holy; 13What god is great like our God?
14 You are the 14God who works wonders; You have 15made known Your strength among the peoples.
15 You have by Your power 16redeemed Your people, The sons of Jacob and 17Joseph. Selah.
16 The 18waters saw You, O God; The waters saw You, they were in anguish; The deeps also trembled.
17 The 19clouds poured out water; The skies 20gave forth a sound; Your 21arrows flashed here and there.

Psalms 77:7-17 Meaning and Commentary

To the chief Musician, to Jeduthun, A Psalm of Asaph. Jeduthun was the name of the chief musician, to whom this psalm was inscribed and sent; see 1 Chronicles 25:1, though Aben Ezra takes it to be the first word of some song, to the tune of which this was sung; and the Midrash interprets it of the subject of the psalm, which is followed by Jarchi, who explains it thus, "concerning the decrees and judgments which passed upon Israel;" that is, in the time of their present captivity, to which, as he, Kimchi, and Arama think, the whole psalm belongs. Some interpreters refer it to the affliction of the Jews in Babylon, so Theodoret; or under Ahasuerus, or Antiochus; and others to the great and last distress of the church under antichrist; though it seems to express the particular case of the psalmist, and which is common to other saints.
