2 Samuel 19:30 Meaning and Commentary

2 Samuel 19:30

And Mephibosheth said unto the king, yea, let him take all,
&c.] The whole estate, as David had given it to him; he was content that that last grant should stand:

forasmuch as my lord the king is come again in peace unto his own
house;
his palace in Jerusalem; which was a strong expression of affection for him, and loyalty to him.

(Solomn used a similar test to determine which woman's baby was alive. ( 1 Kings 3:16-28 ) . He purposed the baby be cut in two to reveal who the real mother was. Likewise, David suggests the property should be divided between Ziba and Miphibosheth to determine the true loyalty of the later. ( 2 Samuel 19:29 2 Samuel 19:30 ) Editor.)

2 Samuel 19:30 In-Context

28 You could have killed all my grandfather's family. Instead, you put me with those people who eat at your own table. So I don't have a right to ask anything more from the king!"
29 The king said to him, "Don't say anything more. I have decided that you and Ziba will divide the land."
30 Mephibosheth said to the king, "Let Ziba take all the land now that my master the king has arrived safely home."
31 Barzillai of Gilead came down from Rogelim to cross the Jordan River with the king.
32 Barzillai was a very old man, eighty years old. He had taken care of the king when David was staying at Mahanaim, because Barzillai was a very rich man.
