Psalms 44:13

13 You have made us something that our neighbors laugh at. Those who live around us make fun of us and tease us.

Psalms 44:13 Meaning and Commentary

Psalms 44:13

Thou makest us a reproach to our neighbours
Which is the common lot of Christians: Christ and his apostles have given reason for the saints in all ages to expect it, and have fortified their minds to bear it patiently, yea, to esteem it an honour, and greater riches than the treasures of the antichristian Egypt; a scorn and a derision to them that are round about us;
being always represented as mean and despicable, and reckoned ignorant and accursed, and as the faith of the world, and the offscouring of all things.

Psalms 44:13 In-Context

11 You handed us over to be eaten up like sheep. You have scattered us among the nations.
12 You sold your people for very little. You didn't gain anything when you sold them.
13 You have made us something that our neighbors laugh at. Those who live around us make fun of us and tease us.
14 The nations make jokes about us. They shake their heads at us.
15 All day long I am reminded of my shame. My face is covered with it
