Psalms 71:13

13 May those who bring charges against me die in shame. May those who want to harm me be covered with shame and dishonor.

Psalms 71:13 Meaning and Commentary

Psalms 71:13

Let them be confounded
See ( Psalms 70:2 ) ;

[and] consumed;
like smoke; see ( Psalms 37:20 ) ; as antichrist will be with the breath of Christ's mouth, and the brightness of his coming, ( 2 Thessalonians 2:8 ) ;

that are adversaries to my soul;
that hated him with a diabolical hatred, as the devil hates the souls of men, and who has his name "Satan" from the word here used; all wicked men are Satans, full of enmity against God, and all good men; and such were David's enemies, spiteful and malicious, and nothing would satisfy them but his life;

let them be covered [with] reproach and dishonour;
as with a garment:

that seek my hurt;
see ( Psalms 35:26 ) ( Psalms 109:18 Psalms 109:19 ) ; as Absalom and his company; so Arama.

Psalms 71:13 In-Context

11 They say, "God has deserted him. Go after him and grab him. No one will save him."
12 God, don't stay so far away from me. My God, come quickly and help me.
13 May those who bring charges against me die in shame. May those who want to harm me be covered with shame and dishonor.
14 But I will always have hope. I will praise you more and more.
15 I will say that what you have done is right. All day long I will talk about how you have saved your people. It is more than I can understand.
