8 He will slay with the sword your daughter villages in the fields; he will heap up a siege mound against you, build a wall against you, and raise a defense against you.

Ezekiel 26:8

He shall slay with the sword thy daughters in the field
The first thing he would do would be to destroy the cities, towns and villages on the continent, near to Tyre, and dependent on it, as in ( Ezekiel 26:6 ) , and so the Targum is here, as there: and he shall make a fort against thee, and cast a mount against thee;
a fort built of wood, and a mount made of earth, from which stones might be cast out of their engines, and arrows shot from their bows into the city, to the damaging of the houses, and the hurt of the inhabitants: and lift up the buckler against thee;
or "shield"; that is, as the Targum paraphrases it,

``set against thee such who are armed with shields;''

to repel the arrows shot out from the city, and so defeat the design of them.

7 "For thus says the Lord God: 'Behold, I will bring against Tyre from the north Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, king of kings, with horses, with chariots, and with horsemen, and an army with many people.

9 He will direct his battering rams against your walls, and with his axes he will break down your towers.

10 Because of the abundance of his horses, their dust will cover you; your walls will shake at the noise of the horsemen, the wagons, and the chariots, when he enters your gates, as men enter a city that has been breached.
