Then answered Eliphaz the Temanite
Or, who was of Teman, as the Targum, the first of Job's friends and comforters, the oldest of them, who first began the dispute with him; which was carried on by his two other companions, who had spoken in their turns; and now in course it fell to him to answer a second time, as he here does,

and said,
as follows.

2 "Should a wise man answer with empty knowledge, And fill himself with the east wind?
3 Should he reason with unprofitable talk, Or by speeches with which he can do no good?
4 Yes, you cast off fear, And restrain prayer before God.
5 For your iniquity teaches your mouth, And you choose the tongue of the crafty.
