Psalms 35:23

23 Wake up! Rise to my defense! Take up my case, my God and my Lord.

Psalms 35:23 Meaning and Commentary

Psalms 35:23

Stir up thyself and awake
Who seemed to be asleep in the apprehensions of the psalmist, and to take no notice of his distresses, and the insults of his enemies; see ( Psalms 44:23 ) ; he adds,

to my judgment, [even] to my cause;
that is, to plead it and maintain it, and avenge him of his enemies, as in ( Psalms 35:1 ) ; making use of his covenant interest in him as a plea for it to engage him to do it, saying,

my God, and my Lord;
see ( Psalms 22:1 ) .

Psalms 35:23 In-Context

21 They shout, “Aha! Aha! With our own eyes we saw him do it!”
22 O LORD, you know all about this. Do not stay silent. Do not abandon me now, O Lord.
23 Wake up! Rise to my defense! Take up my case, my God and my Lord.
24 Declare me not guilty, O LORD my God, for you give justice. Don’t let my enemies laugh about me in my troubles.
25 Don’t let them say, “Look, we got what we wanted! Now we will eat him alive!”
