2 Samuel 15:36

36 Their two sons are with them there, Zadok's son Ahimaaz and Abiathar's son Jonathan; and by them you shall report to me everything you hear."

2 Samuel 15:36 Meaning and Commentary

2 Samuel 15:36

Behold, [they have] there with them two sons, Ahimaaz, Zadok's
[son], and Jonathan, Abiathar's [son]
As in ( 2 Samuel 15:27 ) ; not that they were in the city with them, but they were near it, ( 2 Samuel 17:17 ) ; with whom they had a communication:

and by whom ye shall send unto me everything that ye can hear;
that is, by the sons of the priests; he telling the priests how things were at court, and they sending their sons with messages to David; which was a good scheme to get intelligence, and easy to be put into execution.

2 Samuel 15:36 In-Context

34 But if you return to the city and say to Absalom, "I will be your servant, O king; as I have been your father's servant in time past, so now I will be your servant,' then you will defeat for me the counsel of Ahithophel.
35 The priests Zadok and Abiathar will be with you there. So whatever you hear from the king's house, tell it to the priests Zadok and Abiathar.
36 Their two sons are with them there, Zadok's son Ahimaaz and Abiathar's son Jonathan; and by them you shall report to me everything you hear."
37 So Hushai, David's friend, came into the city, just as Absalom was entering Jerusalem.
