20 Entonces el Espíritu de Dios vino sobre Zacarías, hijo de Joiada el sacerdote. Se puso de pie delante del pueblo y dijo: «Esto dice Dios: “¿Por qué desobedecen los mandatos del Señor
e impiden su propia prosperidad? ¡Ustedes han abandonado al Señor
, y ahora él los ha abandonado a ustedes!”».

2 Chronicles 24:20

And the Spirit of the Lord came upon Zechariah the son of
Jehoiada the priest
The spirit of prophecy, as the Targum; he was moved and influenced by it to speak what is after related:

which stood above the people;
in a desk, or sort of pulpit, in which the priests stood when they taught the people, that they might be the better heard, like that which Ezra used, ( Nehemiah 8:4 )

and said unto them, thus saith God;
being moved and directed by his Spirit, he spake in his name:

why transgress ye the command of the Lord, that ye cannot prosper?
by committing idolatry, than which nothing could more hinder prosperity, both in things spiritual and temporal, in soul and body:

because ye have forsaken the Lord, he hath also forsaken you;
because they had forsaken the worship of God, as the Targum, God had forsaken them, and was about to give them up into the hand of their enemies.

18 ¡Decidieron abandonar el templo del Señor
, Dios de sus antepasados y, en cambio, rindieron culto a ídolos y a los postes dedicados a la diosa Asera! A causa de este pecado, el enojo divino cayó sobre Judá y Jerusalén.

19 Sin embargo, el Señor
envió profetas para que el pueblo se volviera a él. Los profetas advirtieron al pueblo, pero aun así ellos no quisieron escuchar.

20 Entonces el Espíritu de Dios vino sobre Zacarías, hijo de Joiada el sacerdote. Se puso de pie delante del pueblo y dijo: «Esto dice Dios: “¿Por qué desobedecen los mandatos del Señor
e impiden su propia prosperidad? ¡Ustedes han abandonado al Señor
, y ahora él los ha abandonado a ustedes!”».

21 Entonces los líderes tramaron matar a Zacarías, y el rey Joás ordenó que lo mataran a pedradas en el atrio del templo del Señor
.

22 Así fue como el rey Joás pagó a Joiada por su lealtad: mató a su hijo. Las últimas palabras de Zacarías al morir fueron: «¡Que el Señor
vea lo que ellos hacen y vengue mi muerte!».
