2 Samuel 12:21

Then said his servants unto him, what thing [is] this that
thou hast done?
&c.] Or what is the reason of such conduct and behaviour? they knew what was done, but they did not know the meaning of it, which is what they inquired after:

thou didst fast and weep for the child, [while it was] alive;
prayed with fasting and weeping for it, that it might live and not die:

but when the child was dead thou didst rise and eat bread;
and appeared cheerful; this seemed strange to them, when they expected his sorrow would be increased.

19 Cuando David vio que susurraban entre sí, se dio cuenta de lo que había pasado.
—¿Murió el niño? —preguntó.
—Sí —le contestaron—, ya murió.

20 De inmediato David se levantó del suelo, se lavó, se puso lociones
y se cambió de ropa. Luego fue al tabernáculo a adorar al Señor
y después volvió al palacio donde le sirvieron comida y comió.

22 —Ayuné y lloré —respondió David— mientras el niño vivía porque me dije: “Tal vez el Señor
sea compasivo conmigo y permita que el niño viva”.

23 Pero ¿qué motivo tengo para ayunar ahora que ha muerto? ¿Puedo traerlo de nuevo a la vida? Un día yo iré a él, pero él no puede regresar a mí.
