Esdras 9:9

9 Pues éramos esclavos pero, en su amor inagotable, nuestro Dios no nos abandonó en nuestra esclavitud. Por el contrario, hizo que los reyes de Persia nos trataran favorablemente. Él nos dio nuevas fuerzas, para que pudiéramos reconstruir el templo de nuestro Dios y reparar las ruinas. Nos dio una muralla de protección en Judá y en Jerusalén.

Ezra 9:9

For we were bondmen
To the Chaldeans when in Babylon, which was more than the Jews in the times of Christ would own, ( John 8:33 ) ,

yet our God hath not forsaken us in our bondage;
had not left them to continue in it always:

but hath extended mercy unto us in the sight of the kings of Persia;
moved them to have pity and compassion on them, and release them:

to give us a reviving;
while in captivity, they were as in their graves, and like the dry bones in Ezekiel's vision, but revived upon the proclamation of Cyrus, and the encouragement he gave them to return to their own land:

to set up the house of our God, and repair the desolations thereof;
both to rebuild the temple, and to restore the worship of it:

and to give us a wall in Judah and in Jerusalem;
not to set up the walls of Jerusalem, and of other cities, which as yet was not done; but rather the walls of their houses, which they had rebuilt; they had walled houses given them in Judah and Jerusalem; though the word signifies an hedge or fence, such as is about gardens and vineyards, and may denote the protection of the kings of Persia, which was a fence to them against the Samaritans and others; and especially the hedge of divine Providence about them, which guarded and defended them, see ( Job 1:10 ) .

7 Desde el tiempo de nuestros antepasados hasta el día de hoy, hemos vivido sumergidos en el pecado. Por esa razón, nosotros, nuestros reyes y nuestros sacerdotes hemos estado a merced de los reyes paganos de la tierra. Nos han matado, capturado, robado y deshonrado, tal como estamos hoy.

8 »Sin embargo, ahora se nos concedió un breve momento de gracia, porque el Señor
nuestro Dios ha permitido que unos cuantos de nosotros sobreviviéramos como un remanente. Él nos ha dado seguridad en este lugar santo. Nuestro Dios nos ha iluminado los ojos y nos ha concedido un poco de alivio de nuestra esclavitud.

10 »Ahora, Dios nuestro, ¿qué podemos decir después de semejantes cosas? ¡Pues una vez más hemos abandonado tus mandatos!

11 Tus siervos, los profetas, nos advirtieron cuando dijeron: “La tierra en la que están a punto de entrar y poseer está totalmente contaminada por las prácticas detestables de los pueblos que la habitan. De un extremo al otro, la tierra está llena de corrupción.
