Éxodo 31

1 Los artesanos: Bezalel y Aholiab
Luego el Señor
le dijo a Moisés:

2 «Mira, he escogido específicamente a Bezalel, el hijo de Uri y nieto de Hur, de la tribu de Judá.

3 Lo he llenado del Espíritu de Dios y le he dado gran sabiduría, capacidad y destreza en toda clase de artes manuales y oficios.

4 Es un maestro artesano, experto en trabajar el oro, la plata y el bronce.

5 Es hábil en grabar, en incrustar piedras preciosas y en tallar madera. ¡Es un maestro en todo trabajo artístico!

6 »También he designado personalmente a Aholiab, hijo de Ahisamac, de la tribu de Dan, para que sea su ayudante. Además, he dotado de habilidades especiales a todos los expertos artesanos para que puedan hacer todo lo que te he mandado construir:

7 el tabernáculo;
el arca del pacto;
la tapa del arca: el lugar de la expiación;
todo el mobiliario del tabernáculo;

8 la mesa y sus utensilios;
el candelabro de oro puro con todos sus accesorios;
el altar del incienso;

9 el altar de las ofrendas quemadas con todos sus utensilios;
el lavamanos con su base;

10 las vestiduras finamente confeccionadas: las vestiduras sagradas para el sacerdote Aarón y las vestiduras que sus hijos llevarán puestas cuando ministren como sacerdotes;

11 el aceite de la unción;
y el incienso aromático para el Lugar Santo.
Los artesanos deberán hacer todo tal como yo te he ordenado».

12 Instrucciones para el día de descanso
Después el Señor
le dio a Moisés las siguientes instrucciones:

13 «Diles a los israelitas: “Asegúrense de guardar mi día de descanso, porque el día de descanso es una señal del pacto entre ustedes y yo de generación en generación. Se ha establecido para que sepan que yo soy el Señor
, quien los hace santos.

14 Deberán guardar el día de descanso, porque es un día santo para ustedes. Cualquiera que lo profane será ejecutado; y el que trabaje ese día será excluido de la comunidad.

15 Tienen seis días en la semana para hacer su trabajo habitual, pero el séptimo día será un día de descanso absoluto, un día santo, dedicado al Señor
. Cualquiera que trabaje el día de descanso será ejecutado.

16 El pueblo de Israel deberá guardar el día de descanso y conmemorarlo de generación en generación. Es una obligación del pacto para siempre.

17 Es una señal perpetua de mi pacto con el pueblo de Israel. Pues en seis días el Señor
hizo los cielos y la tierra, pero en el séptimo dejó de trabajar y descansó”».

18 Cuando el Señor
terminó de hablar con Moisés en el monte Sinaí, le dio las dos tablas de piedra grabadas con las condiciones del pacto,
escritas por el dedo de Dios.

Éxodo 31 Commentary

Chapter 31

Bezaleel and Aholiab are appointed and qualified for the work of the tabernacle. (1-11) The observance of the sabbath. (12-17) Moses receives the tables of the law. (18)

Verses 1-11 The Israelites, who had been masons and bricklayers in Egypt, were not qualified for curious workmanship; but the Spirit who gave the apostles utterance in divers tongues, miraculously gave Bezaleel and Aholiab the skill that was wanting. The honour which comes from God, is always attended with a work to be done; to be employed for God is high honour. Those whom God calls to any service, he will find or make fit for it. The Lord gives different gifts to different persons; let each mind his proper work, diligently remembering that whatever wisdom any one possesses, the Lord put it in the heart, to do his commandments.

Verses 12-17 Orders were now given that a tabernacle should be set up for the service of God. But they must not think that the nature of the work, and the haste that was required, would justify them in working at it on sabbath days. The Hebrew word /shabath/ signifies rest, or ceasing from labour. The thing signified by the sabbath is that rest in glory which remains for the people of God; therefore the moral obligation of the sabbath must continue, till time is swallowed up in eternity.

Verse 18 The law was written in tables of stone, to show how lasting it is: to denote likewise the hardness of our hearts; one might more easily write on stone, than write any thing good on our corrupt natural hearts. It was written with the finger of God; by his will and power. God only can write his law in the heart: he gives a heart of flesh; then, by his Spirit, which is the ( 2 Corinthians. 3:3 )

INTRODUCTION TO EXODUS 31

In this chapter an account is given of the persons whom God had chosen, and qualified for the work of building the tabernacle, and all things relating to it, and for the direction and oversight thereof, Ex 31:1-6 and an enumeration is made of the several things that were to be wrought, some in one way, some in another, Ex 31:7-11 the law of the sabbath is repeated, and the violation of it made death, Ex 31:12-17 and the chapter is concluded with observing, that at the close of the above orders, two tables of stone, with the law written upon them by the finger of God, were given to Moses, Ex 31:18.
