Judges 21:16

Then the elders of the congregation said
&c.] This being the case, that there were not wives enough for them, they were obliged to consult again, and consider of another expedient to provide for them; and this motion came from the elders of the people, not only in years, but in office:

how shall we do for wives for them that remain:
the other two hundred, who had none:

seeing the women are destroyed out of Benjamin?
and so no wives to be had there; and as for the Israelites which came to Mizpeh, who were of all the tribes of Israel, they had solemnly sworn that they would not give any of their daughters to them, and therefore it was a very difficult thing to provide wives for them.

14 Entonces los hombres de Benjamín volvieron a sus hogares y recibieron como esposas a las cuatrocientas mujeres de Jabes de Galaad, a quienes se les había perdonado la vida. Pero no hubo suficientes mujeres para todos los hombres.

15 El pueblo sintió lástima por Benjamín, porque el Señor
había dejado un vacío en las tribus de Israel.

16 A raíz de eso, los ancianos de la asamblea preguntaron: «¿Cómo podemos conseguir esposas para los pocos que quedan, ya que las mujeres de la tribu de Benjamín están muertas?

17 Los sobrevivientes deben tener herederos, para que no quede exterminada toda una tribu de Israel.

18 Pero no podemos darles a nuestras hijas en matrimonio porque hemos jurado solemnemente que quien lo haga caerá bajo la maldición de Dios».
