New Living Translation (NLT) New International Version (NIV)
The human body has many parts, but the many parts make up only one body. So it is with the body of Christ. 12 The body is a unit, though it is made up of many parts; and though all its parts are many, they form one body. So it is with Christ.
Some of us are Jews, some are Gentiles, some are slaves, and some are free. But we have all been baptized into Christ's body by one Spirit, and we have all received the same Spirit. 13 For we were all baptized by one Spirit into one body--whether Jews or Greeks, slave or free--and we were all given the one Spirit to drink.
Yes, the body has many different parts, not just one part. 14 Now the body is not made up of one part but of many.
If the foot says, "I am not a part of the body because I am not a hand," that does not make it any less a part of the body. 15 If the foot should say, "Because I am not a hand, I do not belong to the body," it would not for that reason cease to be part of the body.
And if the ear says, "I am not part of the body because I am only an ear and not an eye," would that make it any less a part of the body? 16 And if the ear should say, "Because I am not an eye, I do not belong to the body," it would not for that reason cease to be part of the body.
Suppose the whole body were an eye -- then how would you hear? Or if your whole body were just one big ear, how could you smell anything? 17 If the whole body were an eye, where would the sense of hearing be? If the whole body were an ear, where would the sense of smell be?
But God made our bodies with many parts, and he has put each part just where he wants it. 18 But in fact God has arranged the parts in the body, every one of them, just as he wanted them to be.
What a strange thing a body would be if it had only one part! 19 If they were all one part, where would the body be?
Yes, there are many parts, but only one body. 20 As it is, there are many parts, but one body.
The eye can never say to the hand, "I don't need you." The head can't say to the feet, "I don't need you." 21 The eye cannot say to the hand, "I don't need you!" And the head cannot say to the feet, "I don't need you!"
In fact, some of the parts that seem weakest and least important are really the most necessary. 22 On the contrary, those parts of the body that seem to be weaker are indispensable,
And the parts we regard as less honorable are those we clothe with the greatest care. So we carefully protect from the eyes of others those parts that should not be seen, 23 and the parts that we think are less honorable we treat with special honor. And the parts that are unpresentable are treated with special modesty,
while other parts do not require this special care. So God has put the body together in such a way that extra honor and care are given to those parts that have less dignity. 24 while our presentable parts need no special treatment. But God has combined the members of the body and has given greater honor to the parts that lacked it,
This makes for harmony among the members, so that all the members care for each other equally. 25 so that there should be no division in the body, but that its parts should have equal concern for each other.
