But someone will ask, "How are the dead raised? With what kind of body do they come?" 35 But someone may ask, "How are the dead raised? With what kind of body will they come?"
Fool! What you sow does not come to life unless it dies. 36 How foolish! What you sow does not come to life unless it dies.
And as for what you sow, you do not sow the body that is to be, but a bare seed, perhaps of wheat or of some other grain. 37 When you sow, you do not plant the body that will be, but just a seed, perhaps of wheat or of something else.
But God gives it a body as he has chosen, and to each kind of seed its own body. 38 But God gives it a body as he has determined, and to each kind of seed he gives its own body.
Not all flesh is alike, but there is one flesh for human beings, another for animals, another for birds, and another for fish. 39 All flesh is not the same: Men have one kind of flesh, animals have another, birds another and fish another.
There are both heavenly bodies and earthly bodies, but the glory of the heavenly is one thing, and that of the earthly is another. 40 There are also heavenly bodies and there are earthly bodies; but the splendor of the heavenly bodies is one kind, and the splendor of the earthly bodies is another.
There is one glory of the sun, and another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars; indeed, star differs from star in glory. 41 The sun has one kind of splendor, the moon another and the stars another; and star differs from star in splendor.
So it is with the resurrection of the dead. What is sown is perishable, what is raised is imperishable. 42 So will it be with the resurrection of the dead. The body that is sown is perishable, it is raised imperishable;
It is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory. It is sown in weakness, it is raised in power. 43 it is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory; it is sown in weakness, it is raised in power;
It is sown a physical body, it is raised a spiritual body. If there is a physical body, there is also a spiritual body. 44 it is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body. If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body.
Thus it is written, "The first man, Adam, became a living being"; the last Adam became a life-giving spirit. 45 So it is written: "The first man Adam became a living being"; the last Adam, a life-giving spirit.
But it is not the spiritual that is first, but the physical, and then the spiritual. 46 The spiritual did not come first, but the natural, and after that the spiritual.
The first man was from the earth, a man of dust; the second man is from heaven. 47 The first man was of the dust of the earth, the second man from heaven.
As was the man of dust, so are those who are of the dust; and as is the man of heaven, so are those who are of heaven. 48 As was the earthly man, so are those who are of the earth; and as is the man from heaven, so also are those who are of heaven.
Just as we have borne the image of the man of dust, we will also bear the image of the man of heaven. 49 And just as we have borne the likeness of the earthly man, so shall we bear the likeness of the man from heaven.
What I am saying, brothers and sisters, is this: flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable. 50 I declare to you, brothers, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable.
Listen, I will tell you a mystery! We will not all die, but we will all be changed, 51 Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed--
in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed. 52 in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed.
For this perishable body must put on imperishability, and this mortal body must put on immortality. 53 For the perishable must clothe itself with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality.
When this perishable body puts on imperishability, and this mortal body puts on immortality, then the saying that is written will be fulfilled: "Death has been swallowed up in victory." 54 When the perishable has been clothed with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality, then the saying that is written will come true: "Death has been swallowed up in victory."
"Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?" 55 "Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?"
The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. 56 The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law.
But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. 57 But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
