English Standard Version (ESV) New International Version (NIV)
For what credit is it if, when you sin and are beaten for it, you endure? But if when you do good and suffer for it you endure, this is a gracious thing in the sight of God. 20 But how is it to your credit if you receive a beating for doing wrong and endure it? But if you suffer for doing good and you endure it, this is commendable before God.
For to this you have been called, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, so that you might follow in his steps. 21 To this you were called, because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in his steps.
He committed no sin, neither was deceit found in his mouth. 22 "He committed no sin, and no deceit was found in his mouth."
When he was reviled, he did not revile in return; when he suffered, he did not threaten, but continued entrusting himself to him who judges justly. 23 When they hurled their insults at him, he did not retaliate; when he suffered, he made no threats. Instead, he entrusted himself to him who judges justly.
He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed. 24 He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed.
For you were straying like sheep, but have now returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls. 25 For you were like sheep going astray, but now you have returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls.
