Finally then, brothers, we ask and encourage you in the Lord Jesus, that as you have received from us how you must walk and please God-as you are doing-do so even more. 1 Finally, brothers, we instructed you how to live in order to please God, as in fact you are living. Now we ask you and urge you in the Lord Jesus to do this more and more.
For you know what commands we gave you through the Lord Jesus. 2 For you know what instructions we gave you by the authority of the Lord Jesus.
For this is God's will, your sanctification: that you abstain from sexual immorality, 3 It is God's will that you should be sanctified: that you should avoid sexual immorality;
so that each of you knows how to possess his own vessel in sanctification and honor, 4 that each of you should learn to control his own body in a way that is holy and honorable,
not with lustful desires, like the Gentiles who don't know God. 5 not in passionate lust like the heathen, who do not know God;
This means one must not transgress against and defraud his brother in this matter, because the Lord is an avenger of all these offenses, as we also previously told and warned you. 6 and that in this matter no one should wrong his brother or take advantage of him. The Lord will punish men for all such sins, as we have already told you and warned you.
For God has not called us to impurity, but to sanctification. 7 For God did not call us to be impure, but to live a holy life.
Therefore, the person who rejects this does not reject man, but God, who also gives you His Holy Spirit. 8 Therefore, he who rejects this instruction does not reject man but God, who gives you his Holy Spirit.
About brotherly love: you don't need me to write you because you yourselves are taught by God to love one another. 9 Now about brotherly love we do not need to write to you, for you yourselves have been taught by God to love each other.
In fact, you are doing this toward all the brothers in the entire region of Macedonia. But we encourage you, brothers, to do so even more, 10 And in fact, you do love all the brothers throughout Macedonia. Yet we urge you, brothers, to do so more and more.
to seek to lead a quiet life, to mind your own business, and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you, 11 Make it your ambition to lead a quiet life, to mind your own business and to work with your hands, just as we told you,
so that you may walk properly in the presence of outsiders and not be dependent on anyone. 12 so that your daily life may win the respect of outsiders and so that you will not be dependent on anybody.
