Revised Standard Version (RSV) New International Version (NIV)
First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all men, 1 I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone--
for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life, godly and respectful in every way. 2 for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.
This is good, and it is acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, 3 This is good, and pleases God our Savior,
who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. 4 who wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.
For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, 5 For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus,
who gave himself as a ransom for all, the testimony to which was borne at the proper time. 6 who gave himself as a ransom for all men--the testimony given in its proper time.
For this I was appointed a preacher and apostle (I am telling the truth, I am not lying), a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth. 7 And for this purpose I was appointed a herald and an apostle--I am telling the truth, I am not lying--and a teacher of the true faith to the Gentiles.
I desire then that in every place the men should pray, lifting holy hands without anger or quarreling; 8 I want men everywhere to lift up holy hands in prayer, without anger or disputing.
