New Living Translation (NLT) New International Version (NIV)
But this precious treasure -- this light and power that now shine within us -- is held in perishable containers, that is, in our weak bodies. So everyone can see that our glorious power is from God and is not our own. 7 But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us.
We are pressed on every side by troubles, but we are not crushed and broken. We are perplexed, but we don't give up and quit. 8 We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair;
We are hunted down, but God never abandons us. We get knocked down, but we get up again and keep going. 9 persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed.
Through suffering, these bodies of ours constantly share in the death of Jesus so that the life of Jesus may also be seen in our bodies. 10 We always carry around in our body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be revealed in our body.
Yes, we live under constant danger of death because we serve Jesus, so that the life of Jesus will be obvious in our dying bodies. 11 For we who are alive are always being given over to death for Jesus' sake, so that his life may be revealed in our mortal body.
So we live in the face of death, but it has resulted in eternal life for you. 12 So then, death is at work in us, but life is at work in you.
But we continue to preach because we have the same kind of faith the psalmist had when he said, "I believed in God, and so I speak." 13 It is written: "I believed; therefore I have spoken." With that same spirit of faith we also believe and therefore speak,
We know that the same God who raised our Lord Jesus will also raise us with Jesus and present us to himself along with you. 14 because we know that the one who raised the Lord Jesus from the dead will also raise us with Jesus and present us with you in his presence.
All of these things are for your benefit. And as God's grace brings more and more people to Christ, there will be great thanksgiving, and God will receive more and more glory. 15 All this is for your benefit, so that the grace that is reaching more and more people may cause thanksgiving to overflow to the glory of God.
That is why we never give up. Though our bodies are dying, our spirits are being renewed every day. 16 Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day.
