English Standard Version (ESV) New International Version (NIV)
Simeon Peter, a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, To those who have obtained a faith of equal standing with ours by the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ: 1 Simon Peter, a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, To those who through the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ have received a faith as precious as ours:
May grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord. 2 Grace and peace be yours in abundance through the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord.
His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence, 3 His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.
by which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire. 4 Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature and escape the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.
For this very reason, make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue, and virtue with knowledge, 5 For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge;
and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with steadfastness, and steadfastness with godliness, 6 and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness;
and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love. 7 and to godliness, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness, love.
For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they keep you from being ineffective or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 8 For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
For whoever lacks these qualities is so nearsighted that he is blind, having forgotten that he was cleansed from his former sins. 9 But if anyone does not have them, he is nearsighted and blind, and has forgotten that he has been cleansed from his past sins.
Therefore, brothers, be all the more diligent to make your calling and election sure, for if you practice these qualities you will never fall. 10 Therefore, my brothers, be all the more eager to make your calling and election sure. For if you do these things, you will never fall,
