New Living Translation (NLT) New International Version (NIV)
Then all the tribes of Israel went to David at Hebron and told him, "We are all members of your family. 1 All the tribes of Israel came to David at Hebron and said, "We are your own flesh and blood.
For a long time, even while Saul was our king, you were the one who really led Israel. And the LORD has told you, 'You will be the shepherd of my people Israel. You will be their leader.'" 2 In the past, while Saul was king over us, you were the one who led Israel on their military campaigns. And the LORD said to you, 'You will shepherd my people Israel, and you will become their ruler.' "
So there at Hebron, David made a covenant with the leaders of Israel before the LORD. And they anointed him king of Israel. 3 When all the elders of Israel had come to King David at Hebron, the king made a compact with them at Hebron before the LORD, and they anointed David king over Israel.
David was thirty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned forty years in all. 4 David was thirty years old when he became king, and he reigned forty years.
He had reigned over Judah from Hebron for seven years and six months, and from Jerusalem he reigned over all Israel and Judah for thirty-three years. 5 In Hebron he reigned over Judah seven years and six months, and in Jerusalem he reigned over all Israel and Judah thirty-three years.
