2 Timothy 2:1-13

NCV

NIV

1 You then, Timothy, my child, be strong in the grace we have in Christ Jesus.
1 You then, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.
2 You should teach people whom you can trust the things you and many others have heard me say. Then they will be able to teach others.
2 And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable people who will also be qualified to teach others.
3 Share in the troubles we have like a good soldier of Christ Jesus.
3 Join with me in suffering, like a good soldier of Christ Jesus.
4 A soldier wants to please the enlisting officer, so no one serving in the army wastes time with everyday matters.
4 No one serving as a soldier gets entangled in civilian affairs, but rather tries to please his commanding officer.
5 Also an athlete who takes part in a contest must obey all the rules in order to win.
5 Similarly, anyone who competes as an athlete does not receive the victor’s crown except by competing according to the rules.
6 The farmer who works hard should be the first person to get some of the food that was grown.
6 The hardworking farmer should be the first to receive a share of the crops.
7 Think about what I am saying, because the Lord will give you the ability to understand everything.
7 Reflect on what I am saying, for the Lord will give you insight into all this.
8 Remember Jesus Christ, who was raised from the dead, who is from the family of David. This is the Good News I preach,
8 Remember Jesus Christ, raised from the dead, descended from David. This is my gospel,
9 and I am suffering because of it to the point of being bound with chains like a criminal. But God's teaching is not in chains.
9 for which I am suffering even to the point of being chained like a criminal. But God’s word is not chained.
10 So I patiently accept all these troubles so that those whom God has chosen can have the salvation that is in Christ Jesus. With that salvation comes glory that never ends.
10 Therefore I endure everything for the sake of the elect, that they too may obtain the salvation that is in Christ Jesus, with eternal glory.
11 This teaching is true: If we died with him, we will also live with him.
11 Here is a trustworthy saying: If we died with him, we will also live with him;
12 If we accept suffering, we will also rule with him. If we refuse to accept him, he will refuse to accept us.
12 if we endure, we will also reign with him. If we disown him, he will also disown us;
13 If we are not faithful, he will still be faithful, because he cannot be false to himself.
13 if we are faithless, he remains faithful, for he cannot disown himself.
