King James Version (KJV) New International Version (NIV)
But the Jews which believed not , moved with envy , took unto them certain lewd fellows of the baser sort, and gathered a company , and set all the city on an uproar , and assaulted the house of Jason, and sought to bring them out to the people. 5 But the Jews were jealous; so they rounded up some bad characters from the marketplace, formed a mob and started a riot in the city. They rushed to Jason's house in search of Paul and Silas in order to bring them out to the crowd.
And when they found them not, they drew Jason and certain brethren unto the rulers of the city, crying , These that have turned the world upside down are come hither also; 6 But when they did not find them, they dragged Jason and some other brothers before the city officials, shouting: "These men who have caused trouble all over the world have now come here,
Whom Jason hath received : and these all do contrary to the decrees of Caesar, saying that there is another king, one Jesus. 7 and Jason has welcomed them into his house. They are all defying Caesar's decrees, saying that there is another king, one called Jesus."
And they troubled the people and the rulers of the city, when they heard these things. 8 When they heard this, the crowd and the city officials were thrown into turmoil.
And when they had taken security of Jason, and of the other, they let them go . 9 Then they made Jason and the others post bond and let them go.
And the brethren immediately sent away Paul and Silas by night unto Berea: who coming thither went into the synagogue of the Jews. 10 As soon as it was night, the brothers sent Paul and Silas away to Berea. On arriving there, they went to the Jewish synagogue.
