Common English Bible (CEB) New International Version (NIV)
Therefore, if you were raised with Christ, look for the things that are above where Christ is sitting at God's right side. 1 Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God.
Think about the things above and not things on earth. 2 Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.
You died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. 3 For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God.
When Christ, who is your life, is revealed, then you also will be revealed with him in glory. 4 When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.
So put to death the parts of your life that belong to the earth, such as sexual immorality, moral corruption, lust, evil desire, and greed (which is idolatry). 5 Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry.
The wrath of God is coming upon disobedient people because of these things. 6 Because of these, the wrath of God is coming.
You used to live this way, when you were alive to these things. 7 You used to walk in these ways, in the life you once lived.
But now set aside these things, such as anger, rage, malice, slander, and obscene language. 8 But now you must rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips.
Don't lie to each other. Take off the old human nature with its practices 9 Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices
and put on the new nature, which is renewed in knowledge by conforming to the image of the one who created it. 10 and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator.
In this image there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcised nor uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave nor free, but Christ is all things and in all people. 11 Here there is no Greek or Jew, circumcised or uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave or free, but Christ is all, and is in all.
Therefore, as God's choice, holy and loved, put on compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. 12 Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.
Be tolerant with each other and, if someone has a complaint against anyone, forgive each other. As the Lord forgave you, so also forgive each other. 13 Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.
And over all these things put on love, which is the perfect bond of unity. 14 And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.
The peace of Christ must control your hearts—a peace into which you were called in one body. And be thankful people. 15 Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.
The word of Christ must live in you richly. Teach and warn each other with all wisdom by singing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs. Sing to God with gratitude in your hearts. 16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God.
Whatever you do, whether in speech or action, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus and give thanks to God the Father through him. 17 And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
Wives, submit to your husbands in a way that is appropriate in the Lord. 18 Wives, submit to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord.
Husbands, love your wives and don't be harsh with them. 19 Husbands, love your wives and do not be harsh with them.
Children, obey your parents in everything, because this pleases the Lord. 20 Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord.
Parents, don't provoke your children in a way that ends up discouraging them. 21 Fathers, do not embitter your children, or they will become discouraged.
Slaves, obey your masters on earth in everything. Don't just obey like people pleasers when they are watching. Instead, obey with the single motivation of fearing the Lord. 22 Slaves, obey your earthly masters in everything; and do it, not only when their eye is on you and to win their favor, but with sincerity of heart and reverence for the Lord.
Whatever you do, do it from the heart for the Lord and not for people. 23 Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men,
You know that you will receive an inheritance as a reward. You serve the Lord Christ. 24 since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.
But evildoers will receive their reward for their evil actions. There is no discrimination. 25 Anyone who does wrong will be repaid for his wrong, and there is no favoritism.
