The Message (MSG) New International Version (NIV)
Here's what will happen. While you're out among the nations where God has dispersed you and the blessings and curses come in just the way I have set them before you, and you and your children take them seriously 1 When all these blessings and curses I have set before you come upon you and you take them to heart wherever the LORD your God disperses you among the nations,
and come back to God, your God, and obey him with your whole heart and soul according to everything that I command you today, 2 and when you and your children return to the LORD your God and obey him with all your heart and with all your soul according to everything I command you today,
God, your God, will restore everything you lost; he'll have compassion on you; he'll come back and pick up the pieces from all the places where you were scattered. 3 then the LORD your God will restore your fortunes and have compassion on you and gather you again from all the nations where he scattered you.
No matter how far away you end up, God, your God, will get you out of there 4 Even if you have been banished to the most distant land under the heavens, from there the LORD your God will gather you and bring you back.
and bring you back to the land your ancestors once possessed. It will be yours again. He will give you a good life and make you more numerous than your ancestors. 5 He will bring you to the land that belonged to your fathers, and you will take possession of it. He will make you more prosperous and numerous than your fathers.
God, your God, will cut away the thick calluses on your heart and your children's hearts, freeing you to love God, your God, with your whole heart and soul and live, really live. 6 The LORD your God will circumcise your hearts and the hearts of your descendants, so that you may love him with all your heart and with all your soul, and live.
God, your God, will put all these curses on your enemies who hated you and were out to get you. 7 The LORD your God will put all these curses on your enemies who hate and persecute you.
And you will make a new start, listening obediently to God, keeping all his commandments that I'm commanding you today. 8 You will again obey the LORD and follow all his commands I am giving you today.
God, your God, will outdo himself in making things go well for you: you'll have babies, get calves, grow crops, and enjoy an all-around good life. Yes, God will start enjoying you again, making things go well for you just as he enjoyed doing it for your ancestors. 9 Then the LORD your God will make you most prosperous in all the work of your hands and in the fruit of your womb, the young of your livestock and the crops of your land. The LORD will again delight in you and make you prosperous, just as he delighted in your fathers,
But only if you listen obediently to God, your God, and keep the commandments and regulations written in this Book of Revelation. Nothing halfhearted here; you must return to God, your God, totally, heart and soul, holding nothing back. 10 if you obey the LORD your God and keep his commands and decrees that are written in this Book of the Law and turn to the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul.
This commandment that I'm commanding you today isn't too much for you, it's not out of your reach. 11 Now what I am commanding you today is not too difficult for you or beyond your reach.
It's not on a high mountain - you don't have to get mountaineers to climb the peak and bring it down to your level and explain it before you can live it. 12 It is not up in heaven, so that you have to ask, "Who will ascend into heaven to get it and proclaim it to us so we may obey it?"
And it's not across the ocean - you don't have to send sailors out to get it, bring it back, and then explain it before you can live it. 13 Nor is it beyond the sea, so that you have to ask, "Who will cross the sea to get it and proclaim it to us so we may obey it?"
No. The word is right here and now - as near as the tongue in your mouth, as near as the heart in your chest. Just do it! 14 No, the word is very near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart so you may obey it.
Look at what I've done for you today: I've placed in front of you Life and Good Death and Evil. 15 See, I set before you today life and prosperity, death and destruction.
And I command you today: Love God, your God. Walk in his ways. Keep his commandments, regulations, and rules so that you will live, really live, live exuberantly, blessed by God, your God, in the land you are about to enter and possess. 16 For I command you today to love the LORD your God, to walk in his ways, and to keep his commands, decrees and laws; then you will live and increase, and the LORD your God will bless you in the land you are entering to possess.
But I warn you: If you have a change of heart, refuse to listen obediently, and willfully go off to serve and worship other gods, 17 But if your heart turns away and you are not obedient, and if you are drawn away to bow down to other gods and worship them,
you will most certainly die. You won't last long in the land that you are crossing the Jordan to enter and possess. 18 I declare to you this day that you will certainly be destroyed. You will not live long in the land you are crossing the Jordan to enter and possess.
I call Heaven and Earth to witness against you today: I place before you Life and Death, Blessing and Curse. Choose life so that you and your children will live. 19 This day I call heaven and earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live
And love God, your God, listening obediently to him, firmly embracing him. Oh yes, he is life itself, a long life settled on the soil that God, your God, promised to give your ancestors, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. 20 and that you may love the LORD your God, listen to his voice, and hold fast to him. For the LORD is your life, and he will give you many years in the land he swore to give to your fathers, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.
