And [the] Spirit lifted me up, and it brought me to the eastern gate, the one facing east, of the temple of Yahweh. And look, there were twenty-five men in the doorway of the gate, and I saw Jaazaniah the son of Azzur in the midst of them, and Pelatiah the son of Benaiah, the commanders of the people. 1 Then the Spirit lifted me up and brought me to the gate of the house of the LORD that faces east. There at the entrance to the gate were twenty-five men, and I saw among them Jaazaniah son of Azzur and Pelatiah son of Benaiah, leaders of the people.
And he said to me, "Son of man, these [are] the men {who devise mischief}, and [who are] offering bad counsel in this city, 2 The LORD said to me, "Son of man, these are the men who are plotting evil and giving wicked advice in this city.
who [are] saying, "The building of houses [is] not near; [the city] is the pot, and we [are] the flesh. 3 They say, 'Will it not soon be time to build houses? This city is a cooking pot, and we are the meat.'
Therefore prophesy against them! Prophesy, son of man!" 4 Therefore prophesy against them; prophesy, son of man."
And the Spirit of Yahweh fell on me, and he said to me, "Say, 'thus says Yahweh: "This is what you think, house of Israel, and I myself know them, the thoughts of your spirit. 5 Then the Spirit of the LORD came upon me, and he told me to say: "This is what the LORD says: That is what you are saying, O house of Israel, but I know what is going through your mind.
You made your slain ones numerous in this city, and you have filled its streets [with] slain ones." ' 6 You have killed many people in this city and filled its streets with the dead.
Therefore thus says the Lord Yahweh: "Your slain ones whom you put in its midst, they [are] the flesh, and it is [the] pot, and I will bring you out from its midst. 7 "Therefore this is what the Sovereign LORD says: The bodies you have thrown there are the meat and this city is the pot, but I will drive you out of it.
[The] sword you have feared, and [the] sword I will bring against you!" {declares} the Lord Yahweh. 8 You fear the sword, and the sword is what I will bring against you, declares the Sovereign LORD.
"And I will bring you out from its midst, and I will give you into [the] hand of strangers, and I will execute judgments against you. 9 I will drive you out of the city and hand you over to foreigners and inflict punishment on you.
By the sword you will fall at the border of Israel; I will judge you, and you will know that I [am] Yahweh. 10 You will fall by the sword, and I will execute judgment on you at the borders of Israel. Then you will know that I am the LORD.
It will not be as a pot to you, and [so] you would be in the midst of it as flesh, [for] at the border of Israel I will judge you. 11 This city will not be a pot for you, nor will you be the meat in it; I will execute judgment on you at the borders of Israel.
And you will know that I [am] Yahweh, whose rules you did not follow, and whose regulations you did not do, but according to the regulations of the nations that [are] around you, you acted." ' 12 And you will know that I am the LORD, for you have not followed my decrees or kept my laws but have conformed to the standards of the nations around you."
And it happened [that] {as I was prophesying}, Pelatiahu the son of Benaiahu died! And I fell on my face, and I cried [with] a loud voice, and I said, "Ah, Lord Yahweh, you [are] making [a] complete destruction [of] the remnant of Israel!" 13 Now as I was prophesying, Pelatiah son of Benaiah died. Then I fell facedown and cried out in a loud voice, "Ah, Sovereign LORD! Will you completely destroy the remnant of Israel?"
And the word of Yahweh {came} to me, {saying}, 14 The word of the LORD came to me:
"Son of man, your brothers, your brothers, the men of your redemption, and all of the house of Israel, all of it, {who said concerning the inhabitants of Jerusalem}, 'They are far from Yahweh, [therefore] to us this land was given as a possession.' 15 "Son of man, your brothers--your brothers who are your blood relatives and the whole house of Israel--are those of whom the people of Jerusalem have said, 'They are far away from the LORD; this land was given to us as our possession.'
Therefore say, 'Thus says the Lord Yahweh: "Though I have removed them [far away] among the nations and though I have scattered them among the countries, yet I was a sanctuary to them [for a] little while in the countries {to which they have gone}.'" 16 "Therefore say: 'This is what the Sovereign LORD says: Although I sent them far away among the nations and scattered them among the countries, yet for a little while I have been a sanctuary for them in the countries where they have gone.'
Therefore say, 'Thus says the Lord Yahweh: "And I will assemble you from the peoples, and I will gather you from the countries [to] which you were scattered among them, and I will give the land of Israel to you. 17 "Therefore say: 'This is what the Sovereign LORD says: I will gather you from the nations and bring you back from the countries where you have been scattered, and I will give you back the land of Israel again.'
And [when] they come there, then they will remove all of its vile idols and all of its detestable things from it. 18 "They will return to it and remove all its vile images and detestable idols.
And I will give to them one heart, and a new spirit I will give in their inner parts. And I will remove their heart of stone from their body, and I will give to them a heart of flesh, 19 I will give them an undivided heart and put a new spirit in them; I will remove from them their heart of stone and give them a heart of flesh.
so that they may walk in my statutes, and they will keep my regulations, and they will do them, and they will be to me a people, and I myself will be to them as God. 20 Then they will follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws. They will be my people, and I will be their God.
But to the heart of their abominations and the detestable things their heart is going. I will bring their way on their head," {declares} the Lord Yahweh.'" 21 But as for those whose hearts are devoted to their vile images and detestable idols, I will bring down on their own heads what they have done, declares the Sovereign LORD."
Then the cherubim lifted up their wings, and their wheels [were] beside them, and the glory of the God of Israel {was over them}. 22 Then the cherubim, with the wheels beside them, spread their wings, and the glory of the God of Israel was above them.
And the glory of Yahweh went up from the midst of the city, and it stood [still] on the mountain that [is] to the east of the city. 23 The glory of the LORD went up from within the city and stopped above the mountain east of it.
And [the] Spirit lifted me up, and it brought me to Chaldea, to the exiles, in the vision by the spirit of God; and the vision that I had seen {left me}. 24 The Spirit lifted me up and brought me to the exiles in Babylonia in the vision given by the Spirit of God. Then the vision I had seen went up from me,
And I spoke to the exiles all of the words of Yahweh that he had shown me. 25 and I told the exiles everything the LORD had shown me.
