When the Sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices so that they could go and anoint Jesus' dead body. 1 When the Sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices so that they might go to anoint Jesus' body.
Very early on the first day of the week, just after sunrise, they came to the tomb. 2 Very early on the first day of the week, just after sunrise, they were on their way to the tomb
They were saying to each other, "Who's going to roll the stone away from the entrance for us?" 3 and they asked each other, "Who will roll the stone away from the entrance of the tomb?"
When they looked up, they saw that the stone had been rolled away. (And it was a very large stone!) 4 But when they looked up, they saw that the stone, which was very large, had been rolled away.
Going into the tomb, they saw a young man in a white robe seated on the right side; and they were startled. 5 As they entered the tomb, they saw a young man dressed in a white robe sitting on the right side, and they were alarmed.
But he said to them, "Don't be alarmed! You are looking for Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He has been raised. He isn't here. Look, here's the place where they laid him. 6 "Don't be alarmed," he said. "You are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who was crucified. He has risen! He is not here. See the place where they laid him.
Go, tell his disciples, especially Peter, that he is going ahead of you into Galilee. You will see him there, just as he told you." 7 But go, tell his disciples and Peter, 'He is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him, just as he told you.' "
Overcome with terror and dread, they fled from the tomb. They said nothing to anyone, because they were afraid. 8 Trembling and bewildered, the women went out and fled from the tomb. They said nothing to anyone, because they were afraid.
[They promptly reported all of the young man's instructions to those who were with Peter. Afterward, through the work of his disciples, Jesus sent out, from the east to the west, the sacred and undying message of eternal salvation. Amen. ][[After Jesus rose up early on the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, from whom he had cast out seven demons. 9 When Jesus rose early on the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom he had driven seven demons.
She went and reported to the ones who had been with him, who were mourning and weeping. 10 She went and told those who had been with him and who were mourning and weeping.
But even after they heard the news, they didn't believe that Jesus was alive and that Mary had seen him. 11 When they heard that Jesus was alive and that she had seen him, they did not believe it.
After that he appeared in a different form to two of them who were walking along in the countryside. 12 Afterward Jesus appeared in a different form to two of them while they were walking in the country.
When they returned, they reported it to the others, but they didn't believe them. 13 These returned and reported it to the rest; but they did not believe them either.
Finally he appeared to the eleven while they were eating. Jesus criticized their unbelief and stubbornness because they didn't believe those who saw him after he was raised up. 14 Later Jesus appeared to the Eleven as they were eating; he rebuked them for their lack of faith and their stubborn refusal to believe those who had seen him after he had risen.
He said to them, "Go into the whole world and proclaim the good news to every creature. 15 He said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation.
Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever doesn't believe will be condemned. 16 Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.
These signs will be associated with those who believe: they will throw out demons in my name. They will speak in new languages. 17 And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues;
They will pick up snakes with their hands. If they drink anything poisonous, it will not hurt them. They will place their hands on the sick, and they will get well." 18 they will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well."
After the Lord Jesus spoke to them, he was lifted up into heaven and sat down on the right side of God. 19 After the Lord Jesus had spoken to them, he was taken up into heaven and he sat at the right hand of God.
But they went out and proclaimed the message everywhere. The Lord worked with them, confirming the word by the signs associated with them.]] 20 Then the disciples went out and preached everywhere, and the Lord worked with them and confirmed his word by the signs that accompanied it.
