The Message (MSG) New International Version (NIV)
As they were regrouping in Galilee, Jesus told them, "The Son of Man is about to be betrayed to some people who want nothing to do with God. 22 When they came together in Galilee, he said to them, "The Son of Man is going to be betrayed into the hands of men.
They will murder him - and three days later he will be raised alive." The disciples felt terrible. 23 They will kill him, and on the third day he will be raised to life." And the disciples were filled with grief.
When they arrived at Capernaum, the tax men came to Peter and asked, "Does your teacher pay taxes?" 24 After Jesus and his disciples arrived in Capernaum, the collectors of the two-drachma tax came to Peter and asked, "Doesn't your teacher pay the temple tax ?"
Peter said, "Of course." But as soon as they were in the house, Jesus confronted him. "Simon, what do you think? When a king levies taxes, who pays - his children or his subjects?" 25 "Yes, he does," he replied. When Peter came into the house, Jesus was the first to speak. "What do you think, Simon?" he asked. "From whom do the kings of the earth collect duty and taxes--from their own sons or from others?"
He answered, “His subjects.” Jesus said, “Then the children get off free, right? 26 "From others," Peter answered. "Then the sons are exempt," Jesus said to him.
