So then, my beloved, just as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your salvation with fear and trembling ; 12 Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed--not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence--continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling,
for it is God who is at work in you, both to will and to work for His good pleasure. 13 for it is God who works in you to will and to act according to his good purpose.
Do all things without grumbling or disputing ; 14 Do everything without complaining or arguing,
so that you will prove yourselves to be blameless and innocent, children of God above reproach in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you appear as lights in the world, 15 so that you may become blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a crooked and depraved generation, in which you shine like stars in the universe
holding fast the word of life, so that in the day of Christ I will have reason to glory because I did not run in vain nor toil in vain. 16 as you hold out the word of life--in order that I may boast on the day of Christ that I did not run or labor for nothing.
But even if I am being poured out as a drink offering upon the sacrifice and service of your faith, I rejoice and share my joy with you all. 17 But even if I am being poured out like a drink offering on the sacrifice and service coming from your faith, I am glad and rejoice with all of you.
You too, I urge you, rejoice in the same way and share your joy with me. 18 So you too should be glad and rejoice with me.
