New International Reader's Version (NIRV) New International Version (NIV)
Lord, I cry out to you because I'm suffering so deeply. 1 Out of the depths I cry to you, O LORD;
Lord, listen to me. Pay attention to my cry for your favor. 2 O Lord, hear my voice. Let your ears be attentive to my cry for mercy.
Lord, suppose you kept a record of sins. Lord, who then wouldn't be found guilty? 3 If you, O LORD, kept a record of sins, O Lord, who could stand?
But you forgive. So people have respect for you. 4 But with you there is forgiveness; therefore you are feared.
With all my heart I wait for the LORD to help me. I put my hope in his word. 5 I wait for the LORD, my soul waits, and in his word I put my hope.
I wait for the Lord to help me. I wait with more longing than those on guard duty wait for the morning. I'll say it again. I wait with more longing than those on guard duty wait for the morning. 6 My soul waits for the Lord more than watchmen wait for the morning, more than watchmen wait for the morning.
Israel, put your hope in the Lord, because the LORD's love never fails. He sets his people completely free. 7 O Israel, put your hope in the LORD, for with the LORD is unfailing love and with him is full redemption.
He himself will set Israel free from all of their sins. 8 He himself will redeem Israel from all their sins.
