Psalm 139 GNT/NIV - Online Parallel Bible

Good News Translation (GNT) New International Version (NIV)
Lord, you have examined me and you know me. 1 O LORD, you have searched me and you know me.
You know everything I do; from far away you understand all my thoughts. 2 You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar.
You see me, whether I am working or resting; you know all my actions. 3 You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways.
Even before I speak, you already know what I will say. 4 Before a word is on my tongue you know it completely, O LORD.
You are all around me on every side; you protect me with your power. 5 You hem me in--behind and before; you have laid your hand upon me.
Your knowledge of me is too deep; it is beyond my understanding. 6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too lofty for me to attain.
Where could I go to escape from you? Where could I get away from your presence? 7 Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence?
If I went up to heaven, you would be there; if I lay down in the world of the dead, you would be there. 8 If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.
If I flew away beyond the east or lived in the farthest place in the west, 9 If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea,
you would be there to lead me, you would be there to help me. 10 even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast.
I could ask the darkness to hide me or the light around me to turn into night, 11 If I say, "Surely the darkness will hide me and the light become night around me,"
but even darkness is not dark for you, and the night is as bright as the day. Darkness and light are the same to you. 12 even the darkness will not be dark to you; the night will shine like the day, for darkness is as light to you.
You created every part of me; you put me together in my mother's womb. 13 For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb.
I praise you because you are to be feared; all you do is strange and wonderful. I know it with all my heart. 14 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.
When my bones were being formed, carefully put together in my mother's womb, when I was growing there in secret, you knew that I was there - 15 My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place. When I was woven together in the depths of the earth,
you saw me before I was born. The days allotted to me had all been recorded in your book, before any of them ever began. 16 your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.
O God, how difficult I find your thoughts; how many of them there are! 17 How precious to me are your thoughts, O God! How vast is the sum of them!
If I counted them, they would be more than the grains of sand. When I awake, I am still with you. 18 Were I to count them, they would outnumber the grains of sand. When I awake, I am still with you.
O God, how I wish you would kill the wicked! How I wish violent people would leave me alone! 19 If only you would slay the wicked, O God! Away from me, you bloodthirsty men!
They say wicked things about you; they speak evil things against your name. 20 They speak of you with evil intent; your adversaries misuse your name.
O Lord, how I hate those who hate you! How I despise those who rebel against you! 21 Do I not hate those who hate you, O LORD, and abhor those who rise up against you?
I hate them with a total hatred; I regard them as my enemies. 22 I have nothing but hatred for them; I count them my enemies.
Examine me, O God, and know my mind; test me, and discover my thoughts. 23 Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts.
Find out if there is any evil in me and guide me in the everlasting way. 24 See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.
