<> Yahweh, you have searched me, And you know me. 1 O LORD, you have searched me and you know me.
You know my sitting down and my rising up. You perceive my thoughts from afar. 2 You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar.
You search out my path and my lying down, And are acquainted with all my ways. 3 You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways.
For there is not a word on my tongue, But, behold, Yahweh, you know it altogether. 4 Before a word is on my tongue you know it completely, O LORD.
You hem me in behind and before. You laid your hand on me. 5 You hem me in--behind and before; you have laid your hand upon me.
This knowledge is beyond me. It is lofty. I can't attain it. 6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too lofty for me to attain.
Where could I go from your Spirit? Or where could I flee from your presence? 7 Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence?
If I ascend up into heaven, you are there. If I make my bed in Sheol, behold, you are there! 8 If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.
If I take the wings of the dawn, And settle in the uttermost parts of the sea; 9 If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea,
Even there your hand will lead me, And your right hand will hold me. 10 even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast.
If I say, "Surely the darkness will overwhelm me; The light around me will be night;" 11 If I say, "Surely the darkness will hide me and the light become night around me,"
Even the darkness doesn't hide from you, But the night shines as the day. The darkness is like light to you. 12 even the darkness will not be dark to you; the night will shine like the day, for darkness is as light to you.
For you formed my inmost being. You knit me together in my mother's womb. 13 For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb.
I will give thanks to you, For I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Your works are wonderful. My soul knows that very well. 14 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.
My frame wasn't hidden from you, When I was made in secret, Woven together in the depths of the earth. 15 My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place. When I was woven together in the depths of the earth,
Your eyes saw my body. In your book they were all written, The days that were ordained for me, When as yet there were none of them. 16 your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.
How precious to me are your thoughts, God! How vast is the sum of them! 17 How precious to me are your thoughts, O God! How vast is the sum of them!
If I would count them, they are more in number than the sand. When I wake up, I am still with you. 18 Were I to count them, they would outnumber the grains of sand. When I awake, I am still with you.
If only you, God, would kill the wicked. Get away from me, you bloodthirsty men! 19 If only you would slay the wicked, O God! Away from me, you bloodthirsty men!
For they speak against you wickedly. Your enemies take your name in vain. 20 They speak of you with evil intent; your adversaries misuse your name.
Yahweh, don't I hate those who hate you? Am I not grieved with those who rise up against you? 21 Do I not hate those who hate you, O LORD, and abhor those who rise up against you?
I hate them with perfect hatred. They have become my enemies. 22 I have nothing but hatred for them; I count them my enemies.
Search me, God, and know my heart. Try me, and know my thoughts. 23 Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts.
See if there is any wicked way in me, And lead me in the everlasting way. 24 See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.
