New International Reader's Version (NIRV) New International Version (NIV)
Blessed is the one who cares about weak people. When he is in trouble, the LORD saves him. 1 Blessed is he who has regard for the weak; the LORD delivers him in times of trouble.
The LORD will guard him and keep him alive. He will bless him in the land. He won't hand him over to the wishes of his enemies. 2 The LORD will protect him and preserve his life; he will bless him in the land and not surrender him to the desire of his foes.
The LORD will take care of him when he is lying sick in bed. He will make him well again. 3 The LORD will sustain him on his sickbed and restore him from his bed of illness.
I said, "Lord, show me your favor. Heal me. I have sinned against you." 4 I said, "O LORD, have mercy on me; heal me, for I have sinned against you."
My enemies are saying bad things about me. They say, "When will he die and be forgotten?" 5 My enemies say of me in malice, "When will he die and his name perish?"
When anyone comes to see me, he says things he doesn't mean. At the same time, he thinks up lies to tell against me. Then he goes out and spreads those lies around. 6 Whenever one comes to see me, he speaks falsely, while his heart gathers slander; then he goes out and spreads it abroad.
All of my enemies whisper to each other about me. They want something terrible to happen to me. 7 All my enemies whisper together against me; they imagine the worst for me, saying,
They say, "He is sick and will die very soon. He will never get up from his bed again." 8 "A vile disease has beset him; he will never get up from the place where he lies."
Even my close friend, whom I trusted, has deserted me. I even shared my bread with him. 9 Even my close friend, whom I trusted, he who shared my bread, has lifted up his heel against me.
But Lord, show me your favor. Make me well, so I can pay them back. 10 But you, O LORD, have mercy on me; raise me up, that I may repay them.
Then I will know that you are pleased with me, because my enemies haven't won the battle over me. 11 I know that you are pleased with me, for my enemy does not triumph over me.
You will take good care of me because I've been honest. You will let me be with you forever. 12 In my integrity you uphold me and set me in your presence forever.
Give praise to the Lord, the God of Israel, for ever and ever. Amen and Amen. 13 Praise be to the LORD, the God of Israel, from everlasting to everlasting. Amen and Amen.
