The Message (MSG) New International Version (NIV)
Please, God, no more yelling, no more trips to the woodshed. 1 O LORD, do not rebuke me in your anger or discipline me in your wrath.
Treat me nice for a change; I'm so starved for affection. Can't you see I'm black and blue, 2 Be merciful to me, LORD, for I am faint; O LORD, heal me, for my bones are in agony.
and soul? God, how long will it take for you to let up? 3 My soul is in anguish. How long, O LORD, how long?
Break in, God, and break up this fight; if you love me at all, get me out of here. 4 Turn, O LORD, and deliver me; save me because of your unfailing love.
I'm no good to you dead, am I? I can't sing in your choir if I'm buried in some tomb! 5 No one remembers you when he is dead. Who praises you from the grave ?
I'm tired of all this - so tired. My bed has been floating forty days and nights On the flood of my tears. My mattress is soaked, soggy with tears. 6 I am worn out from groaning; all night long I flood my bed with weeping and drench my couch with tears.
The sockets of my eyes are black holes; nearly blind, I squint and grope. 7 My eyes grow weak with sorrow; they fail because of all my foes.
Get out of here, you Devil's crew: at last God has heard my sobs. 8 Away from me, all you who do evil, for the LORD has heard my weeping.
My requests have all been granted, my prayers are answered. 9 The LORD has heard my cry for mercy; the LORD accepts my prayer.
Cowards, my enemies disappear. Disgraced, they turn tail and run. 10 All my enemies will be ashamed and dismayed; they will turn back in sudden disgrace.
